Latest Kentucky fast charging site opens in Hart County

Drivers heading south on Interstate 65 will find Kentucky’s latest fast charging site in Hart County.

The Team Kentucky EV Charging Program this week opened a new station at the Love’s Travel Stop located at 4000 L and N Turnpike Road in Horse Cave off I-65 at Exit 58. The charging station offers four ports capable of charging at up to 400 kilowatts each.

According to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Love’s was awarded $725,000 in funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program administered by the KYTC. Funding from the NEVI program has totalled $55 million for fast-charging stations across Kentucky. 18 fast-charging stations are now open, with 10 under construction and additional site awards expected soon.

Grant awards through the program are for facilities located along the state’s interstates and parkways. Each station must have at least four charging stations, be accessible to the public 24/7, and work with most EV models. Developers awarded funding must contribute at least 20 percent of construction and operational costs, and must maintain the charging station for at least five years.
