BREAKING: An additional case of COVID-19 has been confirmed from Fort Knox. The news release here 👇🏻

Second Fort Knox employee tests positive for COVID-19

“Fort Knox, Kentucky - Fort Knox Preventive Medicine was informed today by the Lincoln Trail District Health Department of a Fort Knox civilian employee who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), marking the second such instance for the Army post in as many days.

This individual is a Hardin County resident who is being treated at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Fort Knox Preventive Medicine and LTDHD officials are conducting contact investigations as part of efforts to reduce the spread of the virus. Contacts will be notified as soon as identified. Those not contacted are considered as having no more risk than the general public at this time.

Fort Knox officials are continually assessing the situation and implementing prudent measures to help prevent the spread of the virus. The community is reminded to adhere to social distancing standards, stay home if feeling sick, thoroughly and frequently wash their hands, cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces.

Additional Fort Knox-related information on helpful resources and impacts associated with COVID-19 can be found at: home.army.mil/knox/index.php/about/coronavirus-covid-19. “

INTO THE NEWSROOM: A new press release from the Lincoln Trail District Health Department confirms the presence of a 5th positive case of COVID-19 in Hardin County, with one patient being housed in isolation at Hardin Memorial Hospital. More details coming from Fort Knox show a positive case has been revealed. A civilian employee who does not reside on post has contracted COVID-19.
Installation officials are monitoring the situation and working closely with local and state health department officials on prevention and response efforts. Additionally, Fort Knox leaders continue to provide the community with up-to-date information on appropriate measures to prevent potential spread of the virus, a press release said.

March 27, 2020

Lincoln Trail District Health Department (LTDHD) has received confirmation of a fifth positive case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Hardin County. This brings the total number of cases in the Lincoln Trail District to eight, with two in Nelson County and one in LaRue County. One of the Hardin County cases is currently at Hardin Memorial Health (HMH). The following is a statement from HMH representative Tracee Troutt, “The patient is currently in isolation. All recommended precautions are being taken to protect the patient and staff. The medical team is evaluating and monitoring the progress of this patient in close collaboration with the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).”
Yesterday, Kentucky saw the single largest number of new cases reported in one day. Every citizens’ behavior over the next two to three weeks will have a direct impact on our ability to adequately respond to the increasing cases of COVID-19. It is vitally important that we all reduce our contacts to the minimum number possible to see the biggest impact on the reduction of new cases. If you are asymptomatic, do not seek a test. If you are not experiencing symptoms, even if you have been exposed, your body’s immune system is doing its job. Due to limited resources, hospitals are already switching gears and only testing those who are at higher risk and need supportive care. If you ignore these recommendations, our medical resources could be depleted before the real crisis hits. Imagine the possibility that there will be too few ventilators, testing supplies, and personal protective equipment for medical personnel to care for those in need if we don’t immediately distance ourselves from one another. That will be our reality if the community does not heed this advice. The healthiest place you can be right now is home.
We must practice social distancing and minimize our travel through public places. However, social distancing does not mean social isolation. We have to find creative ways to stay connected to extended family and friends. We can still safely spend time with the members of our immediate household. But when outside of the home, families have to keep six feet from other people. We can’t use our necessary public outings to undo all the good work we have done to this point.
