The Kentucky State Police is once again participating in the Six-State Trooper Project, which is “a multi-state initiative aimed at reducing crime and keeping illegal firearms out of local communities.”
According to the KSP, the initiative sees state troopers from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia share resources, intelligence, and strategies to maximize their impact and help ensure roadways and communities are safer for everyone. The current initiative effort runs now through September 20.
The focus of the September effort is on criminal patrol operations, with a specific focus on identifying illegal firearms carried by felons travelling on Kentucky roadways. The KSP says troopers “will use traffic enforcement to detect and disrupt illegal activity while also ensuring compliance with state and federal laws prohibiting certain individuals from carrying firearms.”
