A fatal collision in Nelson County earlier this month has claimed a second life.
Several organizations including the Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce and the Bardstown Rotary Club shared in posts Tuesday that 71-year-old Christine Hovan of Coxs Creek died that morning. Hovan’s death comes 11 days after her husband, 79-year-old Edward Hovan, was declared dead at the scene of a crash on Shepherdsville Road by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office.
The Kentucky State Police says the preliminary investigation indicates on May 15 a vehicle operated by Teudis Hernandez of Louisville was traveling south on KY 245 when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane. The vehicle then collided head-on with a northbound vehicle operated by Edward Hovan. Christine Hovan was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.
As a result of the investigation, Hernandez was taken into custody on multiple charges including Murder, First Degree Assault, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Substances. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
