Hardin Co. man arrested after alleged incident

An arrest in a child abuse investigation was made Tuesday morning in Eastview.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 4 responded to a residence on Sonora Hardin Springs Road, and met with the 15-year old victim. The victim claimed that he and his father, Louis Hart, got into a verbal altercation. Allegedly, Hart ran towards his son and struck him in the face, then pushed him against the wall, striking him again. The victim is reported to have had swelling to the side of his face, as well as a bloody nose. Hart explained that his actions were the result of his son talking back to him.

A sibling, an 11-year old girl, claimed she heard the initial strike, but did not hear the shove against the wall. Hart was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

As HCS prepares for return to school, parent input is still needed

With several different instruction options to choose from, Hardin County Schools is still waiting for responses from parents and guardians regarding the upcoming school year.

District spokesperson John Wright says that parents and guardians need to contact their child’s teacher or school to let them know what they are planning for in regards to educational instruction this year. The district’s Board of Education will vote tomorrow night on the new start date of August 24th for students.

1 dead, 1 officer injured after wreck on Leitchfield Road Tuesday morning

One person is dead and one police officer injured after a wreck on Leitchfield Road this morning.

According to the Elizabethtown Police Department, units responded to a wreck on U.S. 62 this morning after an SUV struck a motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The injured officer, who is not being identified at this time, was in the area after the crash occurred. She arrived on scene to render aid, only to be struck by a truck that swerved to avoid the wreck. The officer was seriously injured but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. The identity of the motorcyclist and officer have not been released. No other details are available currently. U.S. 62 is open at this time.

4th arrest made in Hardin County coupon theft ring

Another arrest has been made in a coupon theft ring in Hardin County. Police arrested Marry Dillion of Big Clifty on Sunday for theft of retail merchandise for resale, the same charges as Tara Lybeck, Lisa Williams, and Harley Miller last week. Officer John Thomas says investigations revealed the group was responsible for thousands of dollars in thefts over a 28-month period.

“This is part of a much larger problem in the United States, where the illegal manufacturing and use of fraudulent coupons costs our economy hundreds of millions of dollars annually,” Thomas explained.

The charges against the four women is a type of organized crime, which is classified as a Class C felony in the state of Kentucky. If convicted, the four could be sentenced to at least 5 years in prison.

Organizers say Vine Grove Bluegrass Festival is still on

After various city-sponsored events for Vine Grove were canceled this week, organizers of the Vine Grove Bluegrass Festival is still taking place. Festival chairman Jason Basham says organizers will follow all state and federal guidelines, including masks, social distancing, and sanitation.

“We voted in favor of having the Bluegrass festival,” Basham explained, “and we are devising a plan right now how to make it the safest for our attendees.”

The campsites, both RV and primitive, will still be utilized this year. Basham says the only real changes to this year’s festival might come from the lineup, which might shift some acts to next year due to costs. The event is set to take place in late September.
