Two people have died after a wreck in Elizabethtown yesterday afternoon. Officials responded to reports of a wreck involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle near the intersection of Ring Road and South Dixie Highway Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the truck was unharmed, but the driver and passenger of the motorcycle died as a result of the incident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Authorities in Grayson County are searching for a missing woman. The sheriff’s office says they responded to the Peonia Road area Monday afternoon looking for a 50-year-old female. Sheriff Norman Chaffins says that while initial reports indicated she may have jumped off of a bridge, they no longer believe that based on gathered information. Authorities have not released the identity of the female. No other details are available at this time.

Fire crews in Elizabethtown rescued a man from a burning structure yesterday. Crews responded to an apartment on Princeton Drive just after 11:00 Tuesday morning. The man who was saved from the burning building was unresponsive and was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital, and was later transported to University of Louisville Hospital. The fire was determined to have started in the garage, and officials say the cause appears to be accidental.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office has located a stolen vehicle that had been reported missing on August 7^th. The Chevrolet Traverse was spotted in Shelby County with four suspects inside, later identified as William West, Beverly Lester, Brittany Sellards, and Lauren Powell. A truck and trailer stolen from Louisville were also found during the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and multiple charges are pending.

Power of the Purse, an event to help childhood literacy programs, will take place August 17^th from 6-10 PM. Tickets are on sale now, with general admission tickets selling for $50. Mayor Jeff Gregory awarded a Hardin County teenager the honor of Outstanding Citizen of the City of Elizabethtown. J.T. Bryant, who helped save a family in a Nicholas Ridge home fire, received the honor at a City Council meeting on Monday. Bryant was out for a drive when he saw smoke emanating from the direction of the home. Upon seeing that the home was on fire, he began banging on the door of the home, attempting to wake the family. The family’s dog began to bark, waking the rest of the household, and allowing them to get out of the house in time. The entire family made it out unharmed. Bryant will be heading off to college later this week.

A Louisville man was arrested Saturday morning for threatening his girlfriend at Ruby Tuesday’s in Elizabethtown. The Elizabethtown Police Department reports that Neil Nelson threatened to shoot his girlfriend in the face at the establishment, then left. Police found Nelson behind Cracker Barrel, and asked him to put his hands where they could be seen. Nelson hid behind a car, and was seen reaching for his waistband. He was then held at gunpoint until backup arrived. It was later discovered that Nelson’s gun was loaded and one bullet was in the chamber. He was charged with terroristic threatening, menacing, and possession of a handgun by convicted felon, among other offences.

A vehicle fire caused the Bluegrass Parkway to be shutdown late Sunday night. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to mile marker 11 where a semi-truck driver reportedly had a blowout causing him to lose control. The truck hit the concrete barrier, damaging the fuel tank, which caused the fire. The parkway was shut down for several hours, but no injuries were reported.

A graduation ceremony for potential future Army leader will be taking place this weekend. Cadet Summer Training is coming to a close, and the graduation ceremonies will take place on August 16^th and 18^th from 9-10 AM. Both graduations will take place at Brooks Field.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will be holding an express enrollment event over the next few days. ECTC President and CEO Dr. Juston Pate says that someone will be there at all times to help prospective students get signed up for classes with this simplified process. The event continues today and tomorrow from 9 AM to 6 PM.

The man involved in a shooting in Breckinridge County that also included Kentucky State Police has been indentified as 52-year-old Kevin Jenkins of Leitchfield. Jenkins allegedly turned his gun on officers, and was shot as a result. Jenkins was airlifted to Breckinridge County Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Kentucky State Police say the man who escaped from the Hardin County Detention Center Annex has turned himself in. Family members and Hardin County Jailer Josh Lindblom got in contact with Jordan Lee Geary and convinced him to turn himself in. Geary complied, surrendering to the jailer with no further incident. He is now back in custody.

The superintendent of West Point Schools as resigned. Mickey Brangers informed School Board Chairman Eddie Moore Thursday evening that he had accepted a teaching position with Ballard High School in Jefferson County. A special called meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 5 PM to formally accept Brangers’ resignation. The school district is planning to appoint an interim superintendent until a full time replacement can be found. As previously reported, the school district was audited by the Kentucky Department of Education last month.

Hardin Memorial Health opened the Cancer Care Resource Center at a ribbon-cutting last Friday. Community advocate, and breast cancer survivor, Dee D. Shaw says this facility will serve as a community center for cancer patients. Shaw also notes that the need for a comforting community is essential in the trying times of cancer treatment. The current hours for the facility are 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Vine Grove Police Department have added a 16-month-old Belgian Mallinois to it’s ranks. Orion is a K9 unit for the department, and is already having a huge effect, already having been a part of eight drug-related arrests. Orion is trained in marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and meth, among other illegal substances.
