The man involved in a shooting in Breckinridge County that also included Kentucky State Police has been indentified as 52-year-old Kevin Jenkins of Leitchfield. Jenkins allegedly turned his gun on officers, and was shot as a result. Jenkins was airlifted to Breckinridge County Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Kentucky State Police say the man who escaped from the Hardin County Detention Center Annex has turned himself in. Family members and Hardin County Jailer Josh Lindblom got in contact with Jordan Lee Geary and convinced him to turn himself in. Geary complied, surrendering to the jailer with no further incident. He is now back in custody.

The superintendent of West Point Schools as resigned. Mickey Brangers informed School Board Chairman Eddie Moore Thursday evening that he had accepted a teaching position with Ballard High School in Jefferson County. A special called meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 5 PM to formally accept Brangers’ resignation. The school district is planning to appoint an interim superintendent until a full time replacement can be found. As previously reported, the school district was audited by the Kentucky Department of Education last month.

Hardin Memorial Health opened the Cancer Care Resource Center at a ribbon-cutting last Friday. Community advocate, and breast cancer survivor, Dee D. Shaw says this facility will serve as a community center for cancer patients. Shaw also notes that the need for a comforting community is essential in the trying times of cancer treatment. The current hours for the facility are 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Vine Grove Police Department have added a 16-month-old Belgian Mallinois to it’s ranks. Orion is a K9 unit for the department, and is already having a huge effect, already having been a part of eight drug-related arrests. Orion is trained in marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and meth, among other illegal substances.
