The summer season is in full swing, and the Central Kentucky Community Action Council is inviting families in need of assistance managing utility costs to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program Summer Subsidy component.
“High summer temperatures mean air conditioners are running constantly, which can cause electric bills to skyrocket and strain family budgets to their limits,” said CKCAC Executive Director Bryan Conover. “This subsidy provides vital financial breathing room for our region. By applying a credit to future electric bills, we are helping neighbors maintain safe, cool home environments while easing the burden on their upcoming household budgets.”
The LIHEAP Summer Subsidy provides a one-time electric benefit paid directly to a household’s utility vendor. The summer program does not require households to have a disconnect notice or past-due bill to qualify, and prior assistance from a LIHEAP program does not affect eligibility. At the time of their appointment, all applicants must present proof of household income for everyone living in the household, Social Security cards for all home occupants, a photo ID, your most recent electric bill, and address verification.
Funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to income-eligible households in the CKCAC service area, which includes Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington counties.
