Veterans Town Hall event at American Legion Post No. 113 Tuesday

Representatives from the Robley Rex VA Medical Center will be hosting a public Veterans Town Hall event in Elizabethtown Tuesday.

The town hall will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post No. 113, located at 1251 Ring Road.

VA representatives will provide a comprehensive overview of the PACT Act, provide opportunities to interact with benefit and specialty coordinators, and collect feedback from veterans on ways to improve how the medical center provides healthcare.

Resource tables and staff will provide information on the PACT Act and other VA programs and services including hospital leadership, caregiver support, eligibility, community care, women veterans, and suicide prevention.

Tennessee man killed in Hardin County motorcycle accident

A Tennessee man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Hardin County Friday.

Kentucky State Police Post Four says troopers responded to the intersection of Bardstown Road and Botto Avenue around 1 p.m. August 11. Troopers had been informed of a motorcycle traveling east at a high rate of speed on Bardstown Road, then were told by the Elizabethtown Police Department that the motorcycle had collided with a concrete culvert at the intersection.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Carr of Chestnutt Mound, Tennessee. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

The preliminary investigation revealed that about thirty minutes prior to the accident, Carr’s motorcycle had been seen traveling north on Interstate 65 near mile marker 87 by a KSP Post Three trooper. The trooper had been unable to pursue the motorcycle due to the high rate of speed.

KSP Post Four’s investigation of the crash is ongoing.

Friends of Hardin County Animal Shelter celebrate successful Dirty Dog Bash

Generous Community support and donations helped make last weekend’s Dirty Dog Bash a successful fundraiser for the Friends of Hardin County Animal Shelter.

The fourth annual Dirty Dog Bash was held August 4 at the Venue at Highland Sod Farm, and FOHCAS says after tabulating the totals more than $31,000 was raised to support the efforts at the animal shelter at a time where support is critically needed.

“It’s really such a wonderful event when so many people who share the same mission of the welfare of animals get together for a night as fun as the Dirty Dog Bash is,” said FOHCAS board member and communications head Sarah Fellows. “We’re so grateful to all of our partners, particularly our presenting sponsor Hardin County Honda, our good friends at Pet Supplies Plus and Honey Creek Arena, and all those that were able to offer sponsorships or donations or in-kind gifts. We really just can’t do this without them.” 

The event featured a live and silent auction, a wine/bourbon bottle pull, dinner, and music provided by 94.3 The Wolf’s own Kevin Jaggers.

Water service in Manley Avenue/Airport Road area in Vine Grove will be interrupted Friday

Some residents in Vine Grove will have their water service interrupted Friday.

“Approximately at 8:30 a.m. August 11, water service on Manley Avenue and Airport Road will be disrupted,” said Vine Grove City Clerk Jessica Irwin. “They are moving a water main. It may take four to six hours.”

After water service is restored, any residents that have their water service disrupted will be under a boil water advisory until further notice.

“As soon as the boil water advisory is lifted, we will broadcast that out on our Code Red alert system and also through our Vine Grove City Hall Facebook page,” said Irwin.

Hardin County residents may dispose of household hazardous waste and prescription drugs Saturday

Hardin County residents may dispose of household hazardous waste and prescription drugs during a free event this weekend.

Residents may bring accepted materials to Metalsa, located at 750 North Black Branch Road in Elizabethtown, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12.

Accepted materials include paint thinners, solvents, batteries, anti-freeze, herbicides, automobile products, and fuels, among others. A full list of accepted materials can be found on the Hardin County Government Facebook page.

Radioactive waste, explosives, poisons, asbestos, and commercial waste are among the materials that will not be accepted.

The disposal event is funded in part through a grant Hardin County received from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet through the Kentucky Pride Fund.
