Hardin County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney has been appointed by the State Attorney General as the Special Prosecutor to work on three unsolved, high-profile Nelson County cases. Late Friday afternoon, WQXE obtained a copy of a letter dated January 4th from the office of Attorney General Daniel Cameron appointing the Honorable Shane Young as the Special Prosecutor effective that date. The letter states “this appointment shall be for the purpose of assisting this Office in the prosecution, if any, of potential criminal charges related to the deaths of Jason Ellis, Crystal Rogers and Tommy Ballard … or of any other criminal activity discovered as part of the investigations into those matters.” On Friday evening WQXE reached out for comment from Shane Young. His response was “I am not making any statements.” Young will now work in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office and the United State Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky and those offices have the capability of filing charges at state and federal levels if needed.

The Radcliff Fire Department is sharing information about RV and camper inspections. “We assist the Manufactured Housing Division with doing the inspections for what we call a B1 seal inspection. These are required for any camper or RV that comes in from out of state. It could be a brand new one that was just purchased at a dealership out of state or it could be one that is maybe bought from a private individual or even if you are moving in from another state and need to transfer that title.” says Radcliff Fire Marshall Tommy Crane. The inspection is a visual inspection to check for structural integrity. A fire extinguisher, working carbon monoxide detector and working smoke alarm are required. The Radcliff Fire Department does require an appointment to do these inspections to ensure that an inspector is on site.
Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police are recognizing January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month. According to a statement from the Governor’s office, the nation is recognizing January as a time to educate citizens about the signs to help prevent this crime from happening. Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced that his Office of Trafficking and Abuse Prevention and Prosecution launched a new initiative to help combat human trafficking in Kentucky. The H.O.P.E Initiative will aid in mobilizing communities and landlords to identify and shut down businesses that may be enabling human trafficking. One of the co-owners of Lee’s Famous Chicken in Radcliff has provided an update. According to Kim Dennis, Lee’s Famous Chicken will reopen today at 10:00 AM. On Monday evening the restaurant experienced an electrical fire on the exterior of the building and has been closed since that time. Dennis says the support of the community has been greatly appreciated.
A tanker truck overturned in Nelson County early this morning. According to the Bardstown Fire Department, they were dispatched to the off ramp of Highway 150 to the Bluegrass Parkway to a tanker truck that lost half of its load of distillery slop. Crews were setting up damming to help slow the product from entering local creeks. The Environmental Protection Agency has been contacted per state regulations. The road is not closed but traffic could be impacted while the cleanup continues.
