Today is Quicksie Toy Factories 31st year collecting toys from area factories on behalf of Helping Hand of Hope. Executive Director of Helping Hand of Hope, Hope Burke stated, “We teamed up with Quicksie Toy Factory, for honestly years now. When we started the affordable Christmas program, they came alongside us and have been a big partner for us every year, getting the factories and everyone involved. It is such a fun thing to see, especially with our communities having many factories, and things like that, people coming together and wanting to help our neighbors who are in need this Christmas and wanting to collect toys.” The Quicksie Toy Factory started in 1991 and has collected several hundred thousand toys for less fortunate children in our area over the last 31 years. Toys are picked up in the Quicksie cruiser and a “sleigh” provided by Coleman Allied.

Holiday Blood Drive

The City of Elizabethtown is hosting a Holiday Blood Drive. The drive is being held Wednesday, December 21st from noon to 5 pm at the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. This is a particularly important time of year to donate, as blood collections tend to decrease and patient needs remain consistent. To register visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code Pritchard.

BlueOval SK Training Center

Meanwhile, Ford has announced a partnership with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to build the state’s first co-branded learning facility. The Elizabethtown Community and Technical College BlueOval SK Training Center, located on campus in Elizabethtown, represents a 25-million-dollar investment from the Commonwealth. It will feature a 42,000 square foot training facility where the 5000 BlueOval SK employees will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to build advanced vehicle batteries. Construction on the new training center is set to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2024.

BlueOval SK Ground Breaking Ceremony

Governor Andy Beshear is set to be at the BlueOval SK Battery park this morning to celebrate the progress of the plant. The event begins at 10 am at the BlueOval SK Battery park in Glendale. The 5.8-billion-dollar plant is on-schedule to begin production in 2025 and will be creating 5000 new jobs. The celebration will be live streamed on the Ford Motor Company’s YouTube channel.
