Today marks the final day for signups for CASA of the Heartland’s 90 miles in their shoes campaign. The virtual event is designed to raise awareness about children who are waitlisted for a CASA volunteer.
As of this morning, the organization says they are just a few spots away from meeting their goal of 90. More information can be found by going to CASA of the Heartland’s website.
Today marks the beginning of this year’s Kentucky General Assembly, and the issue at the heart of this short session will be the state, and Governor Andy Beshear’s response, to covid-19. Many lawmakers have pre-filed bills in the past few months, hoping to reign in what they say is too much power for a governor. Republicans own a supermajority in both chambers, meaning this session will likely be a conservative-heavy agenda. The body will meet for a total of 30 working days, stretching from today until March. The legislature will also have to approve another yearly budget, as covid-19 cut short last year’s session.
