The Lincoln Trail Area Development District is seeking the public’s input on a compatible use plan study for Fort Knox and surrounding communities. The goal is to ensure sustainability, both local and regional, between the Fort Knox military installation, private citizens, and local and state government. This study will include the counties of Hardin, Nelson, Meade, and Bullitt, and will also include evaluation of military issues that interfere with daily civilian life, as well as civilian development that may hinder military missions at Fort Knox. The 29th Annual Christmas in the Park display at Freeman Lake will open to the public tonight at 6 PM, and will feature additional attractions in addition to the lights. The artificial ice rink will be open as well, for the price of $3 for ages under 18, and $5 for ages 18 and up. The rink can also be rented for private parties at a rate of two hours for $100. Towne Mall in Elizabethtown is once again teaming up with the Salvation Army to bring the Angel Tree program, which allows people to shop for less fortunate children for Christmas, to Hardin County. There are about 730 children in the program, and their Angel Tree tags can be picked up at Towne Mall. It is preferred for gifts to be unwrapped at time of drop off. Packages can be dropped off at the Angel Tree station, or to mall security. More information can be found by calling the Salvation Army.
New Beginnings is asking for assistance during the upcoming Giving Tuesday event, taking place on December 3rd. The goal is to raise $1000 to buy gift cards for new families to go out and bond with. The New Beginning’s Facebook page outlines several ways, including Giving Tuesday, to support the new foster families. There are approximately over 10,000 children in foster care in Kentucky.
