HCSO: Rineyville man arrested in connection to burglary

The Hardin County Sheriff’s office arrested a Rineyville man who was allegedly involved in a burglary last Friday.

According to arrest citations, on September 16th, deputies responded to Rineyville Big Springs Road in reference to a vehicle that had been broken into. The vehicle had all four windows broken, the windshield cracked, and other damage done, exceeding $1,000 in damage. A smartech auto care pack was reported missing. Later, deputies responded to a residence further down the same road, where forced entry into the residence was made. Several items including knives, firearms, and a Yamaha ATV were reported missing. Deputies identified Lane Ashley as a suspect, as he had allegedly pawned one of the stolen knives. Deputies responded to Ashley’s residence, detaining him and transporting him to Hardin County Sheriff’s office. Ashley initially denied involvement in the burglary, but later admitted to his part in it, stating he was lookout for an accomplice. A search warrant at Ashley’s residence uncovered a revolver stolen from the second residence, and the Smartech pack and other items identified as belonging to the Pontiac owner, as well as marijuana and digital scales. Ashley admitted to breaking the windows of the Pontiac.

Ashley was charged with two separate cases of burglary, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property, as well as drug related offenses. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Trump nominates Amy Coney Barrett as SCOTUS nominee

President Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his Supreme Court nominee this weekend.

Barrett served on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Seventh circuit, a position Trump nominated her to in 2017. Barrett clerked for late Justice Antonin Scalia. Barrett had been on the president’s short list for several year, being mentioned back in 2018 when Trump eventually nominated Brett Kavanaugh. Barrett will potentially replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who died over a week ago at the age of 87.

Utility services to soon resume disconnects with moratorium lifted

With over $700,000 in overdue payments, Nolin RECC and other utility providers will resume utility disconnects in the near future.

The announcement comes as the Kentucky Public Service Commission announced this week that they would be lifting a moratorium enacted in March that suspended utility shut offs during the pandemic. Disconnects will start in October, but Nolin is giving their members a bit longer, with a cutoff date of November 2nd.

Nolin RECC spokesperson Sarah Fellows says that while payments will need to be made by the November date, late fees will not be added until December 31st.

Rineyville man arrested over alleged assault

A Rineyville man was arrested this week after allegedly assaulting a woman.

Arrest records and a warrant indicate that Roger Gipson was upset that the woman was not talking to him, and as a result, Gipson is said to have punched the woman in the face and head. When she walked to the kitchen, she was knocked to the floor, where Gipson continued to assault her. The woman was taken to Baptist Health Hardin, were she was observed to have a broken wrist and was bleeding from both ears. Gipson was arrested on assault 2nd degree and was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Local health department adds 24 COVID-19 cases, state 745

Governor Andy Beshear announced 745 new cases of COVID-19 last night. In addition to new cases, the Governor announced 13 new deaths in relation to the virus. That brings the total number of deaths so far to 1,137. Locally, health officials with Lincoln Trail District Health Department announced 24 new cases in their service area. Of the 24, 10 were from Hardin county, 4 from Meade, and 1 from LaRue.

Currently, the district has 8 patients hospitalized and 223 on home isolation. 89% of patients have recovered so far in the district.
