Local Business Owner Passes Away

David Allen of Allen’s Heating and Cooling passed away last Thursday. Allen was 69 and at home at the time of his passing. He was a proprietor of Allen’s Heating and Cooling for more than 50 years. His funeral will be held today at 11 am at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Local Educator Passes Away

A longtime local educator and volleyball coach passed away on Friday. Miss Rita Highbaugh was a teacher and longtime head volleyball coach of Central Hardin High School. She also served as a softball coach and was still an assistant coach for volleyball at the time of her passing. Highbaugh was instrumental in the formation of the Central Hardin Volleyball Team at its inception. Her visitation is Tuesday from 3 to 8 pm at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, and her funeral is Wednesday beginning at 2 pm.

Driver Killed in Elizabethtown Crash Identified

Here’s an update on the fatal collision that took place in Elizabethtown Tuesday night. Public information officer for the Elizabethtown Police Department, Chris Denham stated, “The driver killed in the car accident Tuesday night has been identified as, 28 year old, Destiny Shelton.” There are no further details currently.

Jeff and Mary Key Scholarship Donation

A local family recently made a large donation to a scholarship fund. Jeff and Mary Key donated 100,000 dollars to the Jeff and Mary Keys Scholarship. The Scholarship is for certain Central Hardin High School Graduates who plan on attending Western Kentucky University. The scholarship is administered by the college heights foundation at WKU and was established by the family in 2017.
