Hardin County Schools return to the classroom today. Spokesperson John Wright urges drivers to be patient when driving behind school buses as they attempt to familiarize themselves and the kids with the bus routes. Drivers are advised to memorize the bus routes as well, to make travel easier. Bus routes will begin as early as before 6 A.M.

Several people were injured after a crash in Elizabethtown earlier this week. Elizabethtown police responded to a wreck on Dixie Highway in front of Lakeshore Plaza shortly after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. According to officials, two people were inside of a car, a Chrysler, when it was hit by a truck, being pushed into the intersection and causing severe damage. The driver of the Chrysler was airlifted to University Hospital and was listed in serious condition. The passenger was taken to Hardin Memorial, and their condition is unknown at this time.

Kosair Charities has awarded $100,000 to the Hardin Memorial Health Foundation in order to improve the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and to expand pediatric services in Radcliff. Chairman Joe Prather says this award will help HMH keep its equipment top-of-the-line to better serve the community. Hardin Memorial Health is the only Level 2 NICU Unit in Central Kentucky.

A historic opportunity will be awarded to those wishing to become police officers. Kentucky State Police are currently taking applications to become part of the department’s 100th recruiting class. Trooper Scotty Sharp says all application materials must be completed and returned to the KSP Recruitment Branch. Interested applicants can find all relevant information, as well as a downloadable application, on the Kentucky State Police website.

It’s back to school for some area school districts today. Students with Meade, Breckenridge, Larue, Bullitt, and Grayson counties head back today, as well as Elizabethtown and Cloverport Independent. Hardin County Schools start tomorrow. West Point students are getting a few more days of summer with their start date of August 20th.

The City of Vine Grove will look to update their city hall. The city revealed plans for an updated city hall at the city council meeting on Monday. Vine Grove mayor Pam Ogden says the City Council is still exploring funding options for the building, which comes at a proposed cost of roughly $2 million. The new building will be added on to the current building.

The Radcliff Police Department responded to a call of a violated Emergency Protective Order Monday evening. Frederick Simmons of Brandenburg violated the order after he came within 500 feet of his girlfriend, passing her several times while she was walking. When an arrest was attempted, Simmons resisted and began screaming and trying to kick officers. He managed to damage a police body camera while struggling, but was successfully apprehended. Simmons was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and violating an EPO, among other offenses.
