The Elizabethtown and Glendale Fire Departments took part in a water rescue over the weekend, which was needed due to flooding from rain. According to Elizabethtown Deputy Fire Chief Everett Roberts, a truck with one adult man and three children was trapped by high water and wedged against a rock. The truck was close enough to the bank that the children were able to leap to safety, but the man escaped to the roof of the vehicle to wait until help arrived. All trapped occupants were rescued successfully, and were unharmed.

New 18th District Representative Samara Heavrin is scheduled to take the oath of office today. As previously reported, Heavrin won the position vacated by Tim Moore in the November 5th election, defeating Democrat Becky Miller.

Events in Elizabethtown were changed or cancelled over the weekend due to the weather. The reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Mayor Jeff Gregory and area children and the lighting of the tree was changed from Saturday to Sunday night. All the indoor events were held as scheduled, while the parade had to be cancelled. As of right now, there are no plans to reschedule the parade.
