This adaptation, faithful to the novel, also frames the original horror story within Mary Shelley's writing of it. The script includes references to relationships of some of the historical characters (Mary, Percy, Byron, Claire) that were certainly unconventional in their time and others (Victor, Elizabeth) that may seem strange in ours. In addition to the violence inherent in the Creature's journey, instances of mild innuendo and mature language are present.
