The city of Elizabethtown will have a new chief of Police in June. The City Council approved the hiring of Jeremy Thompson at a special called meeting yesterday. Current Chief, Jamie Land, announced in February that he planned to retire June 1st.

The Kentucky State Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are partnering tomorrow to encourage citizens to remove potentially dangerous medicines from their homes and dispose of them safely. The collections will be held at all KSP post across the state from 10am until 2pm.

Kentucky Justice Secretary, John Tilley, spoke at the 2019 RX Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit yesterday about the innovative reforms and initiatives that are underway in Kentucky to lower overdoses and save lives. Programs such as the Kentucky Help Call Center, Local-Option Syringe Exchange Programs, and the new CAN HEAL Project among many more efforts, was his topic of discussion.

A student from Helmwood Heights had the opportunity to be Mayor for the day, earlier this week. Allyssa Levee spent the entire day with Mayor Gregory learning the in’s and out’s of our local Government.
